Over the past few years since the Greensburg tornado, the residents and members of the Greensburg community have witnessed and experienced love and giving from all over the world. On January 12, 2010 Haiti was hit by a magnitude 7.0 M earthquake. The Haitian Government reports that between 217,000 and 230,000 people had been identified as dead, an estimated 300,000 injured and an estimated 1,000,000 homeless.
The students of NHS (National Honors Society) planned a fundraiser, originally intended on going towards a trip they would take at the end of the year. The fundraiser was held during basketball homecoming on January 15th. They organized a cake raffle and ended up raising $564 that went to the International Response Fund through the American Red Cross.
“At first the money was going to be for our NHS service trip, but after the earthquake, we felt that the best way to use that money would be to help the citizens of Haiti,” NHS President Thomas Derstein said.
